I’m a birder who has lived in North San Diego County for the last 5 year. Originally from the east coast I grew up watching colorful songbirds come to my backyard. While spending time traveling Latin America, I got back into birding, enjoying exploring what each area had to offer. Since then I’ve used birding as a way to enrich my travels. I’m fascinated by the variety of birds in the world and all their unique behaviors. In San Diego, I love checking out different kinds of habitats to take full advantage of the biodiversity in the county. More recently I’ve been working on improving my sound ID skills, connecting with more birding community events, and tracking down a few local species that have eluded me.

  3. My highlight from yesterday might have been the peregrine falcon pair we saw while walking on the beach below these cool cliffs. Can you see it? I probably wouldn’t have noticed without the guys camped out with giant camera lenses below.

  4. Juvenile Bar-tailed Godwit Sets World Record

It’s wild that a 4-month-old bird is able to travel 1/3 the way around the globe in an 11 day nonstop flight. Traveling from Alaska to Australia is an impressive feat itself. But the endurance required for 11 days of constant flying is hard to fathom.

  5. This might be my favorite picture from the bird festival. It was from the pelagic bird watching trip. When we were back in the marina, this guy jumped onboard hoping we’d brought back some fish. I love the contrast of the Snowy Egrets feathers and yellow against the blue sky....
