The San Diego Mojo are a Major League Volleyball team. They currently play at Viejas Arena on San Diego State University’s campus. MLV began in 2026 after the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF), which had its inaugural season in 2024, was rebranded following an ownership dispute. In 2026, there were two other leagues in competition for the women’s pro volleyball market, League One Volleyball (LOVB) which had its first season in 2025, and Athletes Unlimited Pro Volleyball Championship which started playing in 2021 and is a 2 month competition to be crowned the best player.

Women volleyball players ready as one player jumps to serve in a large arena

I went to my first game in March 2026 with a friend. We had a choice of buying general admission tickets or a selected seat. Viejas Arena is a large venue which can seat about 12,000 people, so it’s a large space to fill. I’m glad we went with general admission, because we actually were able to sit pretty close to the court for the lowest ticket price. Though if you want to sit center court, it might be worth buying a seat. The arena was probably less than 20% full when I watched the Mojo play the Omaha Supernova, so most seats were open, but the fans did get into the game and you could still feel the excitement build as the sets progressed.

The game was very professional, with well produced videos, an engaging announcer, full video broadcast setup, and two competitive teams. Even with the limited attendance, this was a well-run event. But a striking difference from many men’s games, the players looked like they were having fun playing. My friend and I commented on how many of the players in the intro video were smiling, compared to the stoic, or even angry personas in many men’s professional sports. In warmups, and even during the game, players were celebrating their successes and excited to play.

The game I watched vs the Omaha Supernovas was fun to see play out. Both teams came into the game near a 0.500 record, with Omaha having a record advantage. Interestingly, the team had played in the championship the last two seasons so clearly had experience. In the first set, it looked like the Supernova could win in straight sets, with the score not even close. I had seen that the Mojo were coming off of two losses, one also in straight sets so it wasn’t a promising start.

I’d like to commend the bench on their engagement with the game and variety of celebrations 😄

The second set was much more even, with both teams battling for the lead. But the Mojo came out on top to even the game at one set each. Even though the set wasn’t won by a big margin, it was a complete turnaround. In the third set, the Mojo pulled ahead early. Their blockers put pressure on the Supernova offense and made it hard for them to get hard shots down on the court. From there the Mojo prevailed and after a close start, went on to wrap up in the fourth set.

Professional volleyball at that level is so entertaining. The players made incredible digs and saves to keep play alive. San Diego also had some very tall blockers who worked the net to make Omaha pay for missed spikes. As the sets went on, there were fewer aces or quick points and the back and forth points were exciting to watch. During the game, the Mojo’s Libero was celebrated for being only the second player in the league to reach 1,000 digs. And she clearly had earned that record, playing so many points and frequently hitting the ground to make a play. In an upcoming game she’ll be recognized with her own bobblehead figurine.

I’d definitely want to come back and watch another Mojo volleyball game. The ticket prices were reasonable and I was able to find parking off campus for free. The game was fun to watch and highly competitive. While there weren’t that many fans for the space, they still were engaged and made for a great atmosphere. Since they are currently streaming games on YouTube, I might follow along for games to see how the team continues to compete for the rest of the season.
