Every year I try to make it to at least a few Padres games. Petco Park is one of my favorite baseball stadiums and the fan experience is terrific. The park is in the heart of downtown and it’s fun walking up to the gates. I enjoyed the time I took the train from north county, but if you reserve a spot, there’s usually parking nearby that isn’t too expensive.
While tickets for the most popular opponents like the Dodgers can get expensive, many games have reasonably priced tickets available. I went to a mid-week day game with my sister when she visited last and were able to get great tickets at field level for under $50. I typically like to find a lower level seat along one of the baselines, though I enjoyed the seats we got in the second row of left field one year for my birthday. The nosebleeds are pretty high up so not the best view, but if you have a lot of people and are looking to save some money while still getting the ballpark experience it might be worth it.

Petco park also has great food options. One of my favorites is the “Cardiff Crack” steak nachos from Seaside Market, which is a local specialty. Puesto Mexican food is also a popular option. Of course, there are always the ballpark staples of hot dogs, beer, and cracker jacks. The food isn’t cheap, but it at least tastes good. I will warn that the pretzel with cheese sauce was a disappointment. But everything else has been great.
The Padres team has some fantastic players like Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. It seems like they often make a playoff run but can’t get past the Dodgers. I will often follow games on the radio or catch up on highlights later. The Padres sometimes make great late-game comebacks but they also throw away plenty of games. So you never know what the outcome will be, but I’d say the Padres always have a chance. Regardless of how the games go, I’d say there’s nothing like a day at the ballpark.
