At Oceanside’s new Frontwave Arena sports venue there is a soccer team with a winning legacy. An indoor soccer team! Honestly, I hate the team name but they seem to have quite the fan base. It was by far the biggest crowd I’ve seen for a sports event at the venue. It helps that the Sockers have been multi-time MASL champions including this past spring.

Looking through a glass wall at indoor soccer players on a field in an arena.

Indoor socker is played in a hockey rink sized turf field with plexiglass around the outside and goals that extend into the stands. Players can substitute mid-play (hockey style) so the games are fast paced. I went to my first game with a friend and neither of us knew what to expect, but it was a blast. When I say fast-paced, they literally had a player who would substitute in just for a quick counter attack at the goal before immediately subbing out.

The game I saw was the last regular season game before the Sockers went to the playoffs. The Sockers were behind late in the game and scored to send the game to extra time where they scored a golden goal to win. It was exciting and all the fans were into it. The venue is small so there really isn’t a bad view anywhere. We sat right next to the goal which was a really fun view as players sent crosses in off the wall. If you enjoy watching either hockey or soccer and are near Oceanside, I’d highly recommend seeing if the Sockers are playing. I’ll be looking forward to the next time I can go.
