These might be my last photos from Washington this year. This was a cool sunset over the bay, but I like the contrast that came out when converted to black and white. Even though I know the sun and sky were bright red, I like that the differences in darkness...
I love the chaos of this photo. So much noise but also an imperfect balance.
Happy Birthday Bex. With your infectious smile and thirst for life, you have shown me so much joy. You have helped me expect more out of myself and others. But also taught me how to have grace with myself when I fall short. I’m proud of how you’ve faced adversity...
This was our first flight to Friday Harbor. The sky was much clearer which made for good sightseeing. I really liked the contrasts in this delta of the mainland.
This was one of two flights we had to friday Harbor. There had been some forest fires in the area making for an incredible sky.
I realized I still have a bunch of photos from Washington this summer I haven’t posted yet. I like the simplicity of this one. Fittingly it’s from a fun afternoon with different Hoesterey men taking us around on their respective plate/boat.
We went to the Seattle Aquarium for the first time last week. There were some pretty impressive displays. The large tank at the new pavilion is quite impressive.
Time to fly
I’m so glad to have access to places like this. Even if I have to share it with mosquitoes.
We made the trek to North Cascades National Park this weekend. This remote park in Washington was very fascinating to drive through. We stopped for some short excursions and learned about the complex geology and history. So much of this natural beauty is defined by the three dams built in...
On our way to North Cascades national park we stopped at an old growth forest. The scale of these trees was really staggering. It’s also cool to see how in a forest that old, you have generations of trees growing out of the downed trunks of previous generations. And on...
Had a special visitor today. Thanks for hanging around the house. It’s nice when the birds come to you instead of the other way around.🦉
We came to spend time with family this summer and fit several day trips including to North Cascades National Park, two trips to Friday Harbor, and some time walking around Seattle.
Despite the poor lighting I was really pleased this kingfisher posed enough for me to snap this digi-scoped pic. I lightly edited it for extra mood.
I’m lichen all the moisture loving fungi and mosses up in Washington. 💚
This month I attended the Wings Over Water Birding Festival in Blaine, Washington. This was the first birding festival I’ve attended but I had been wanting to do more social birding events. We got the idea when a family member recently moved there and my wife and I stayed at...
I’ve really enjoyed the Wings Over Water birding festival this weekend, but one of my favorite surprises was finding the artwork of Laurel Mundy. Her artwork is so vivid and beautiful that we bought a few pieces and I added some to my /stickers page. I highly recommend checking out...
A spring trip to participate in a local birding event.
And other PNW adventures
Our third trip to Washington for a family wedding and to explore Olympic National Park.
