If all goes well this will be tagged on octothorp.es using a custom microformats2 harmonizer and my webmention sender. It’s pretty cool to see the progress the Octothorpe project has made and I love seeing more discovery channels for personal blogs.
I’ve added a new lighbox feature to pages with multiple photos. In theory it should make viewing those photos a little better by giving you a slideshow you can click through if you click on the image. It also makes it easier to view some of smaller images in my...
I’ve really enjoyed the Wings Over Water birding festival this weekend, but one of my favorite surprises was finding the artwork of Laurel Mundy. Her artwork is so vivid and beautiful that we bought a few pieces and I added some to my /stickers page. I highly recommend checking out...
I added my first custom web component to my site to implement a screen wake lock on recipe pages. Nice to get a chance to play with new web APIs.

I thought my #11ty upgrade had been uneventful. But then I learned my hacky use of eleventyExcludeFromCollections to add reasons for why something was excluded had caused my draft posts to suddenly be exposed in my main feed. I remember reading about that feature but didn’t think about the implications....
I’ve noticed a few people recently refer to their top-level pages as “slash pages”. Honestly my first reaction was “Aren’t those just ‘pages’?”, but I’ve come to find the term kinda fun. But when people started adding a /slashes slash page, I thought “Isn’t that a sitemap”? XML sitemaps are...
My old newsletter service (MailerLite) changed their pricing plans, so I’ve migrated to Mailchimp. Let me know if you have any issues subscribing or getting the weekly updates (currently scheduled for Mondays). If you want updates more frequently, I’ll recommend subscribing via RSS or ActivityPub. See the /subscribe page for...
The snow has started falling on the site despite the weather still being in the 70+°F (20+°C) outside. ☃️
I recently added a micropub server to make it easier to post to my site. Sorry if that means more dumb words. I’m hoping it encourages me to post more pictures though.
I just merged a big update to the site which adds dark mode and some other style changes. The site now uses system fonts and doesn’t include the material css library which should reduce the size of the initial page load. The main goal was simplifying the codebase but css...
I added the /search page to the site with a form supporting multiple search engines. The hope is to give visitors a bit more choice in what companies to interact with. The challenge was managing different query param for different sites. DuckDuckGo doesn’t support multiple q= params, but does accept...
I added a new page to my site this week. You can now preview some of the posts I have in progress on the /drafts page! Beware, I don’t plan on redirecting those old URLs though so I don’t recommend linking to draft posts.
Thanks to snarfed.org my website should now be discoverable as @anthony@ciccarello.me on federated ActivityPub services like Mastodon. I’m still ironing out the kinks but I’m impressed by everything fed.brid.gy supports
Today I finally enabled displaying of webmentions thanks to webmention.io. I only support rendering mentions client side for now but I hope to eventually add rendering and sending to the site’s build process.
A year later I finally got my Instagram photos backfilled. I hope to make it easier to upload photos in the future but it feels good to have combined the two collections.
I’ve added a new type of post to my site. This should open a whole world of possibilities integrating with indieweb.org standards!
Photography has been a fun hobby to pick up. Though I may backfill older posts I wanted to start with something fresh. I’m looking forward to adding more content to my site.
On my blog I link to my RSS/Atom feed for the convenience of people who use a feed reader. However, since this is an XML document, clicking on the link could be confusing for web visitors. I had previously looked into adding styles to the XML document to make it...
